Press release

2009  Walker, Minnesota

Tournament walleye fishing is back on Minnesota's Leech Lake! On May 30th and 31st the Leech Lake Walleye Tournament will be held in Walker, Minnesota. Leech Lake has been the hottest walleye lake in the state over the past year. Much of this success has been the result of increased stocking and the hard work of many Walker residents and business owners, working in conjunction with the DNR to bring the fishery back to levels not seen in many years. A group of volunteers has now organized a non-profit tournament on the lake, with a goal of creating the largest, locally sponsored non-profit walleye tournament in the country. The LLWT allows for a 125 team field with an entry fee of $300 per team and payouts of over $30,000 in cash and prizes, including $10,000 cash for the winners. This family-friendly tournament also offers prizes in male/female and adult/child divisions and will be televised on Midwest Outdoors TV. Host sponsors of the event are Northern Lights Casino, the Leech Lake Tourism Bureau and Reed's Outdoor Outfitters. Proceeds will go to area non-profit organizations.
